Statement of Need

Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) protocols represent comprehensive, multidisciplinary efforts to expedite postoperative recovery while reducing avoidable complications. Successful implementation of these protocols requires proper coordination between the surgeon, anesthesiologist, nursing personnel, pharmacist, patient, and patient's caregivers in the postoperative period. This has led to a need for interdisciplinary education to ensure that all team members are equipped to optimize patient outcomes.

In this CME Outfitters Live and OnDemand webcast, expert faculty will give evidence supporting the integration of ERAS protocols and discuss employing them across interdisciplinary teams in order to facilitate collaboration, including the routine documentation of outcomes and evaluation of ERAS protocols.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this CE activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the evidence that supports integration of ERAS protocols with the interdisciplinary surgical team.
  • Employ ERAS protocols across interdisciplinary teams for the optimal management of surgical patients.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to routinely document outcomes and evaluate ERAS protocols.

The following learning objectives pertain only to those requesting CNE credit:

  • Describe the evidence that supports integration of ERAS protocols with the interdisciplinary surgical team.
  • Summarize how to employ ERAS protocols across interdisciplinary teams for the optimal management of surgical patients.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to routinely document outcomes and evaluate ERAS protocols.

Supported by an educational grant from Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc.
