Statement of Need

Chronic cough, particularly those due to hypersensitivity, is under-recognized by health care professionals and leads to heavy patient and health system burden including costs and time associated with multiple provider visits, testing, and treatment as well as a decreased quality of life (QoL) due to patients experiencing depression, fatigue, stress incontinence, fear of social gatherings, and annoyance of the patients’ support systems. Pharmacists can facilitate patients on their journey to diagnosis by recognizing the clinical presentation of chronic cough and providing guidance to patients regarding the actions they can take to receive accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.

This CME Outfitters podcast will present a patient case that shows how pharmacists can talk to patients presenting with cough, including recommending cough products, discussions about cough hypersensitivity syndrome, and facilitating patients who may have chronic cough to the next steps.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this CME/CE activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the clinical presentation of chronic cough.
