Led by Director of Accreditation Richard Vanderpool, CME Outfitters' Office of Education and Compliance has racked up an impressive string of accreditation approvals in less than 12 months. The run of successful applications underscores the med-ed company's commitment to multidisciplinary education, and allows its continuing education (CE) program to offer as many as six types of credit for a wide range of continuing education activities. "Our research shows a steady increase in multidisciplinary treatment teams and we are perfectly positioned for that new reality," said Vanderpool. "We are committed to staying abreast of these trends in healthcare practice and even being agents of change in order to meet the needs of clinicians and our educational partners. Our multidisciplinary advisory board is another example of this commitment."
Recent ACCME decision includes "Exemplary Compliance" mention
CME Outfitters, LLC, has been surveyed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and awarded accreditation for two years as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians.
ACCME accreditation seeks to assure both physicians and the public that continuing medical education activities provided by CME Outfitters, LLC, meet the high standards of the Essential Areas, Elements and Policies for Accreditation as specified by the ACCME.
The ACCME rigorously evaluates the overall continuing medical education programs of institutions according to standards adopted by all seven sponsoring organizations of the ACCME. These are: the American Board of Medical Specialties; the American Hospital Association; the American Medical Association; the Association for Hospital Medical Education; the Association of American Medical Colleges; the Council of Medical Specialty Societies; and the Federation of State Medical Boards.
CME Outfitters, LLC, received "Compliance" ratings on all Elements and an "Exemplary Compliance" mention for Element 2.5 which pertains to evaluating the effectiveness of its overall CME program. The April 2004 ACCME Action Report stated "The provider has an innovative and creative mechanism(s) in place to measure the effectiveness of its overall CME program with evidence that improvements are made on a regular basis. The provider presents a detailed eleven-point mechanism for evaluation of all aspects of its overall program which include action plans and regular follow-up. Detailed improvements are noted in each area evaluated."
The most recent approval by the ACCME caps off a run of approvals for the firm, including nursing, pharmacy, psychology, social work, and case management. CME Outfitters will now be the sole accredited provider for each educational activity it develops.
Within the past 12 months, CME Outfitters, LLC, has also earned accredited/approved status from the following organizations:
- American Psychological Association (APA)
Two-year preliminary approval was granted at the APA March 26-28, 2004 Continuing Professional Education Committee meeting.
- New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA)
On February 18, 2004, CME Outfitters, LLC, was approved as a provider of continuing education by the NYSNA, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
- Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)
On January 15, 2004, CME Outfitters, LLC, was granted accredited provider status for an initial two-year term through January 31, 2006.
- National Association of Social Workers (NASW)
In October 2003, CME Outfitters, LLC, was approved as a provider of continuing education by the NASW CE Approval Program.
- Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC)
In June 2003, CME Outfitters, LLC, began offering continuing education activities pre-approved by the CCMC, which is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.
